21 June 2014. Walking along an overgrown railway track near Crombie in Fife. As ‘night’ approaches, darkness fails to smother the light. Even the Giant Hogweed (?) appears to embrace the sky.

That picture captures perfectly the curious half-light of a northern solstice night. I’ve just returned from Colonsay (a blog post coming up, I hope), where the evenings seem endless. I can;t bear to think that the longest of the days are now past.
Interesting if it is a Giant Hogweed, as they are increasingly hard to find these days. I suspect it’s more likely a common hogweed – this article is helpful on the difference: http://www.thepoisongarden.co.uk/blog/blog260811.htm

Thanks Ian and for the clarification about the hogweed. I’m not very up on plant identification. From my limited knowledge it looked ‘hogweedish’ and was very tall. (Giant!) Look forward to your blog post on Colonsay.
